Floods 2010–Relief & Rehabilitation

Unfortunately, the catastrophe caused by unprecedented floods in Pakistan during the monsoon season of year 2010, devastated the country in general and province of Sindh in particular.

Relief (Cost=15 Million pkr)

The SDA teams worked round the clock in the field, camps and in shelter homes to provide its services to the affected people who had no choice but to be relocated. Our services are as follows:

  • We provided 100 tents, 100 plastic floor sheets, water  cans, milk & biscuits, cooked food , 200 rice bags, 200 flour bags, 90 earthen water pots (Nadiyoon) & their filing with filtered water at thirty points, cooking utensils to 450 families , clothes & shoes, 500 ration bags (each bag made to serve 7 persons for 7 days. Items included in each bag were rice, flour, sugar, milk, tea leaves, salt, red chilies, pulses (Daal), potatoes, onion, match box and hygiene kits).
  • We provided 11 camp schools each with tent, teachers, books and stationeries, antenatal checkup, medical checkups by Specialists, provision of medicines and ambulance for transportation to hospital, 680 Eid Hampers each containing vermicelli’s, tea bags, dry milk and cooking oil, 2000 Eid gift packets to children, Packets of sweets to 250 children, sweet rice to 500 people & Eidi to 600 children (Rs. 100 to each child) on Eid day, 300 Iron Cots, 300 mosquito nets, 10 hand pumps.
  • We also provided counseling services to mentally disturbed families, medical services especially focusing pregnant women, mothers, neonates and children. All services were provided till the displaced families dwelled. For continuing education of children and to keep them engaged tent schools were also set in which enrolled children were provided books and stationary. Most importantly, qualified teachers voluntarily attended the children.

Rehabilitation (Cost=5.5 Million pkr)

The rehabilitation during the Floods in 2010 consisted of the construction of the SDA Model Village at Muhammad Khan Khoso, Khairpur Nathan Shah. The construction included 23 Roshan Ghar scheme for residence, 1 Mosque to offer prayers and 3 Hand Pumps for water supply.

Rains 2011 – Rescue & Rehabilitation

The rains in 2011 involved virtually the whole Sindh. SDA provided support to the needy in terms of edible goods, tents for shelter, clothing, shoes, hygiene kits, quilts, mosquito nets, drinking water and medical supplies & facilities. School bags and stationary were also arranged for camp schools to provide the children with education facilities so as to nurture the developing minds and a lesson to continue with the education process even in the worst hardships during life.

School bags and stationary were also arranged for camp schools to provide the children with education facilities so as to nurture the developing minds and a lesson to continue with the education process even in the worst hardships during life.
The items we provided had total cost of Rs. 2.7 Million. It included 40 Tents, 1045 Ration bags (Each bag containing items for 7 persons for 14 days. Items included rice, flour, pulses, cooking oil, sugar, milk, tea leaves, salt, red chilies, match boxes, soaps for bath and washing clothes).
It also included 1050 mosquito nets, clothes and shoes for ladies, gents & children, school bags and stationeries for 250 children (UNICEF). We spent Rs. 50000/ for road repair with plastic bags to protect the earth structure, industrial home material for making Rilhees and 680 quilts.
